The Empress - Last Spike Tour

In the summer of 2024 The Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad
sent the Empress 2816 Steam Locomotive on a promotional tour
from Calgary to Mexico City and back again. This may be one of the last times
an old timer like this actually runs the rails.

Zachary and I got up early on June 15th in Houston Texas,
grabbed some breakfast, and waited to see the train on its return trip.
It was impossible to get any scheduling information from the railroad company,
but Scott Kelm on Nextdoor Neighborhood knew a friend of a CPKC ex-employee
who updated him on its morning departure time from Kendelton Rail Yard.
Scott's wife waited on the highway at the yard and sent him live updates which
he then posted on the Nextdoor App, so we were able to rush over to the
Holcombe St. crossing about a half mile from home just in time to see her come by.
